How can anything that starts with the word die be fun?
Dieting is sooo not fun. Or, can it be? I have a few pointers for you that might make it a bit more tolerable. I can’t give you everything because my ebook will be out shortly and it is going to rock anything and everything that is out there! But, to whet your appetite (pun intended), I’ll give you a bite. If you’ve been reading my blog you know I am B-I-G on taking action. The best plans ever weren’t put into play because of inaction. It isn’t the thought that counts. It isn’t the plan. It is putting the plan into action. Well, let’s put our little plan into action. Except we aren’t going to diet at all, we’re just going to fill our pie-hole a bit MORE than usual (sort of). I’ll give you three super-duper, easy-breezy eating tips that will help shed some poundage.
- For starters, a new study by the Nutrition and Metabolic Research Center at Scripps Clinic has confirmed that the simple act of adding grapefruit and grapefruit juice to one’s diet can result in weight loss. In a 12-week pilot study, led by Dr. Ken Fujioka, doctors monitored weight and metabolic factors, such as insulin secretion. Of the 100 men and women who participated in the Scripps Clinic “Grapefruit Diet” study, on average, participants who ate half a grapefruit with each meal lost 3.6 pounds, while those who drank a serving of grapefruit juice three times a day lost 3.3 pounds. However, many patients in the study lost more than 10 pounds! Grapefruits are almost 90 percent water and any fruit with a high water content helps boost water ingestion and research has shown that increasing water consumption can give more energy and help increase metabolism.
- Broccoli ranks number one for its nutrient content, anti-oxidant qualities, anti-carcinogenic powers and the amount of fiber it contains. But, wait, there’s more! It is very rich in vitamin C and carotenoids, contains protein, B vitamins, phosphorus, potassium, and calcium and moondust (okay, maybe not). Whew, take a breath. Okay, here we go again. Broccoli has ample amounts of chromium – the mineral that protects us against hyperinsulinemia, obesity, and diabetes. Fiber and antioxidants in broccoli have a detoxifying and slimming effect. Just like other vegetables of the cabbage family, broccoli contains glutathiones, indoles, and quercitins – the compounds with strong anti-carcinogenic qualities, which can prevent the developments of ovarian, colon, lung, and breast cancers. Broc really does rock! Fiber and antioxidants in broccoli have a detoxifying and slimming effect. Pound some before dinner because . . . increasing fiber intake gives a feeling of fullness to the stomach which will force you to eat less. It is also a piece of ca . . . vegetable to cook. Cut the flowerets into chunks and steam for several minutes, or until broccoli has changed its color into bright green. Enjoy with just a touch of butter. Nummer-nummer good for the tummer.
- An apple a day is no joke! The pectin found in apples can prevent your body from absorbing too much fat. Pectin is also a strong appetite suppressant that keeps you satisfied for long periods of time (preventing over stuffing the pie-hole). In a study done in Brazil people who had 1 whole apple before each meal lost 33% more weight than a group of people who didn’t.
An extra one because I like to over deliver . . .
- Keeping hydrated by drinking 6-8 glasses of water daily helps decrease appetite and control weight gain.
