Inspiring post. Will have to read “The War of Art.” That excerpt illustrated your point. Sometimes, the best part is the process rather than the “getting there.”
For me, quitting is not an option. I believe too much in what I’m doing/writing. However, it’s always good to be reminded how long it took for others before they “made it” or were published.

We all have the ability to turn our lives around. Sometimes it takes a while, but it can happen. I’m nowhere near where I want to be in life, but when I look at my life compared to where I was in 2005, I have come a LONG way. It makes me excited to think where I could be by 2013 if I keep up the same pace. Just keep plugging away at life and keep your goals in mind.
Glad to hear about your path and journey. It is always better to look back with contentment, rather than remorse.

I kept putting my writing career off and thinking that in another year I’ll do it. Then it was I have to take care of my mother. Then I need to find a job. And you’re right if we continue to wait for the perfect opportunity, the perfect opportunity never shows up. Thanks for such a motivational post Rob!

First off, War of Art is a great book. I have long been a fan of Pressfields historical fiction (Gates of Fire is simply one of my favorite fiction books of all time) and his ideas really are excellent.
As for quitting in general I have always thought of it like digging for gold or oil. What happens if you stop mere feet from hitting your goal. You will always wonder and regret at what could have been.
It is easy to get discouraged, but getting back up on that horse is essential. At least if you have done everything you can do and it still doesn’t work out you will know in your heart of hearts you have given it your all.

I wonder if anyone’ s grandma was like mine …
Even though she passed many years ago, I can still hear her saying, “There’s no time like the present!” “You say you want to build a snowman today? Then get out there in the snow and build one!” “You’re thinking about reading that book you got for your birthday? What are you waiting for?! There’s no time like the present!”
Needless to say, grandma was a great role model. And I noticed the older she got, the more she valued every precious minute of time. 🙂

I’ve had my defining moment, where you look at yourself and where you are and everything/everyone around you and decide to change things, fix them up and move forward.. And you know, it is the best revenge, but that’s not the main motivating factor Life is about growth and constantly moving forward..
