Sweat. Bleed. Cry. But Don’t Even Think About Quitting

It’s Your Time

If you’re on the edge once again, get off it. You aren’t quitting this time. This is the time. It’s your time.

You owe yourself this one. You owe yourself enough to find out ‘what if’. What if I pushed a little farther? What if I pushed a little harder?

You owe yourself this second chance. Third chance. And so on. You’ve given everyone else one. It’s your turn. It’s your turn to give yourself one.

Let this sink in: It’s your time. It’s your time to be alive like never before. It’s your time to Live it LOUD.

EVERYONE who ‘made it’ before you decided that NOW was that time. Their time.

Now, it’s your time.

If you haven’t read The War of Art by Steven Pressfield, do so.
You can follow my link to Amazon or you can go get it from your library.
Just read it.

Steven talks a lot about his time. Each new day is his time once again. He chooses it to be.

This excerpt was taken from The War of Art:

‘I never did find a buyer for the book. Or the next one, either. It was ten years before I got the first check for something I had written and ten more before a novel, The Legend of Bagger Vance, was actually published. But that moment when I first hit the keys to spell out THE END was epochal.
I remember rolling the last page out and adding it to the stack that was the finished manuscript. Nobody knew I was done. Nobody cared. But I knew. I felt like a dragon I’d been fighting all my life had just dropped dead at my feet and gasped out its last sulfuric breath.’
~ end excerpt

Slay your dragon. It’s ready.

It’s ready to be slayed because it’s your time.

It’s your time.

Live it LOUD!

Inspiring post. Will have to read “The War of Art.” That excerpt illustrated your point. Sometimes, the best part is the process rather than the “getting there.”

For me, quitting is not an option. I believe too much in what I’m doing/writing. However, it’s always good to be reminded how long it took for others before they “made it” or were published.

      Hey Penelope,

      Some are quick learners 🙂
It’s obvious with the attitude you carry, time is the only consideration in achieving anything you want. Good on you.
Steven took a bit longer than some, but, actually got there. Most don’t.
      Congratulations for being intentional.

    Hi Rob
I am so motivated that people have to stay away from me if they are lazy and un-motivated. They annoy the hell out of me.. Especially when they whinge about what could be or what they wish they had. I never wish for anything, I just go out and get it…Even if it is hard work, which most things are…

    • Rob says:

      Hey Mitz,

I love the attitude and by visiting your site, I realize it isn’t lip service. Persistence goes a long way in life. Being self-motivated also goes a long way.
The two together? Well then, I guess that is unbeatable (you my dear).

      Live it LOUD!

  3. Very inspiring. The title of the post alone catched my attention. I believe that if you really love what you do, theres no way that anyone can hold you down.

I love this! I’ve already shared it.

Waiting for the right time just turns into a long, drawn out waiting game. It’s like “tomorrow,” the day that never comes. Thanks for putting into words and reinforcing what I needed to hear. 🙂

    • Rob says:

      You and I both Emily!

Let’s put it in stone, “Quitting is not an option!”
No matter the outcome, those words have never been defeated.

We all have the ability to turn our lives around. Sometimes it takes a while, but it can happen. I’m nowhere near where I want to be in life, but when I look at my life compared to where I was in 2005, I have come a LONG way. It makes me excited to think where I could be by 2013 if I keep up the same pace. Just keep plugging away at life and keep your goals in mind.

        • Rob says:

Glad to hear about your path and journey. It is always better to look back with contentment, rather than remorse.

          Thanks…and,

          Live it LOUD!

What an inspiring post! I am ready… even more ready then I was at 4 a.m. this morning to conquer this day! 😀

I kept putting my writing career off and thinking that in another year I’ll do it. Then it was I have to take care of my mother. Then I need to find a job. And you’re right if we continue to wait for the perfect opportunity, the perfect opportunity never shows up. Thanks for such a motivational post Rob!

  6. Rob,

First off, War of Art is a great book. I have long been a fan of Pressfields historical fiction (Gates of Fire is simply one of my favorite fiction books of all time) and his ideas really are excellent.

As for quitting in general I have always thought of it like digging for gold or oil. What happens if you stop mere feet from hitting your goal. You will always wonder and regret at what could have been.

It is easy to get discouraged, but getting back up on that horse is essential. At least if you have done everything you can do and it still doesn’t work out you will know in your heart of hearts you have given it your all.

    • Rob says:

      Hey Steve,

So true. I haven’t read anything else by Pressfield but I will. That book is powerful in many ways.

Re: At least if you have done everything you can do and it still doesn’t work out you will know in your heart of hearts you have given it your all.
That brings the smile to the inside. Rarely, will one giving it their all, be disappointed. Thanks for the input.

  7. Beautiful post, Rob!

I wonder if anyone’ s grandma was like mine …

Even though she passed many years ago, I can still hear her saying, “There’s no time like the present!” “You say you want to build a snowman today? Then get out there in the snow and build one!” “You’re thinking about reading that book you got for your birthday? What are you waiting for?! There’s no time like the present!”

Needless to say, grandma was a great role model. And I noticed the older she got, the more she valued every precious minute of time. 🙂

Your post instantly brought this quote to mind …

“Pain is nothing compared to what it feels like to quit.” ~ Unknown author

    • Rob says:

      Hey Melanie!

Good to see you and read you. 🙂
Sounds like your grandma was a real keeper. It is nice to have those types of memories about someone you looked up to. It seems as though her words stuck with you in a big way! “…no time like the present.” Indeed. Thanks Grandma.

      And, thank you Melanie.
(I look up to you-and that’s no joke)

Live it just the way you do!

  8. Very interesting timing of this post…and, yes, it is finally my time! Thanks for the extra boost.

    • Rob says:

      Our time Tambre. Our time.

There’s room for more if anyone would care to join us. 🙂
      The more, the merrier!

      Live it LOUD!

      • Rosevaldo says:

I’ve had my defining moment, where you look at yourself and where you are and everything/everyone around you and decide to change things, fix them up and move forward.. And you know, it is the best revenge, but that’s not the main motivating factor Life is about growth and constantly moving forward..

        • Rob says:

          Constantly moving forward…indeed, Rosevaldo.
That is a key to life. We cannot be bogged down by trivial little things such as setbacks (wink).

          Live it LOUD!
